Justice and Community Safety Directorate boards, councils and committees
These boards, councils, committees and other bodies help inform the work of the Justice and Community Safety Directorate.
Each of these entities:
- play a substantial or important role in formation of government policy
- advise on policy, rather than administrative matters
- are permanent, or established for a prolonged period
- provide reports or recommendations to the Executive (ie Ministers, Cabinet) and senior executives of directorates and other agencies (ie Director-General, Deputy Director-General, Business Unit heads).
They may also involve the expenditure of public money.
We publish this list to meet the requirements under section 23 of the Freedom of Information Act 2016.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Justice Advisory Group
Oversees and implements the deliverable actions under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Agreement 2019-2028.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Justice Partnership Caucus Group
Monitors progress under the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Agreement 2019-2028 and provides input to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Justice Advisory Group.
ACT Gambling and Racing Commission
The ACT Gambling and Racing Commission administers gaming laws, controls, supervises and regulates gaming and racing in the ACT.
ACT Legal Assistance Forum (ACTLAF) Group
Coordinates and strengthens the ACT’s legal assistance sector to facilitate access to justice for socially and economically disadvantaged people in the ACT region as detailed in the ACT Legal Assistance Sector Strategy and action plan.
ACT Multi-hazard Advisory Council
The ACT Multi-hazard Advisory Council advises the Minister for Police and Emergency Services on matters relating to natural disasters and all hazards across the emergency management spectrum.
ACT Professional Standards Council
Assesses and approves applications for Professional Standards Schemes which limit the civil liability of members of approved occupational associations.
ACT Sentence Administration Board
The ACT Sentence Administration Board is an independent, statutory authority that makes decisions about parole, and breaches of parole and intensive corrections orders.
Clinical Advisory Committee
The Clinical Advisory Committee addresses all clinical matters relevant to the functions outlined in the Emergencies Act 2004 and seeks to maintain the quality of pre-hospital and routine ambulance care to the community.
Diversification and Sustainability Support Fund Advisory Board
Provides advice to the Attorney-General on applications submitted by licensed clubs for funding for diversification and sustainability projects from the Diversification and Sustainability Support Fund.
Electronic Gaming Machine Reform Programme Industry Reference Group
Provides industry advice and input to the analysis of options for implementing measures to reduce harm from electronic gaming machines.
Firearms Advisory Committee
Advises the Minister for Police and Crime Prevention on Commonwealth, State and Territory firearms matters, including the National Firearms Agreement, the operation of the Firearms Act 1996 (the Act), regulations made under the Act and other related legislation.
Joint Racing Industry and Government Committee
Supports members to participate in the development and sustainability of racing in the ACT and provide input into related policy development under the Memorandum of Understanding between the Racing Industry and the ACT Government.
Liquor Advisory Board
The Liquor Advisory Board provides advice to the Minister about the operation and effectiveness of the Liquor Act 2010, and measures that support the harm minimisation and community safety principles contained within the Act.
Redress Implementation Group
Ensures the ACT implements the National Redress Scheme for Institutional Child Sexual Abuse effectively.
Reducing Recidivism Advisory Committee
Monitors and evaluates the impact of Reducing Recidivism in the ACT by 25% by 2025 plan. Informs, guides and makes recommendations to the Director-General about complementary research and evaluation activities for the Research Collaboration.
Reducing Recidivism Executive Coordination Group
Provides strategic oversight advice and monitors progress on the implementation of Reducing Recidivism in the ACT by 25% by 2025 Plan.
Victims Advisory Board
The Victims Advisory Board advises the Minister for Human Rights on policies, priorities and strategies for the acknowledgment, protection and promotion of the interests of victims in the administration of justice as defined under Victims of Crime Act 1994 Act.
