Admitted patient care activity
This page provides information on the care provided to admitted patients across ACT public hospitals, highlighting key measures of activity.
Data highlights
Hospitalisations
A hospitalisation (hospital separation) is an episode of admitted patient care, from admission to discharge, transfer, or death. A hospitalisation may be same-day (the patient commences and ends their hospitalisation on the same day) or overnight (the patient stays one or more nights in the hospital).
Total patient days
Patient days is the total number of days for all patients who were admitted for an episode of care and who were discharged during a specified reference period. A patient who is admitted and separated on the same day is allocated one patient day.
Overnight patient days
Overnight patient days includes only patient days for hospitalisation where the patient spent at least one night in hospital.
Babies born
This indicator includes the total number of babies born within public hospital maternity services and reflects overall maternity activity across the ACT public health service.
Caesarean sections
Tracking the number of babies delivered by caesarean section in ACT public hospitals helps understand maternity care practices and monitor trends in surgical births.
