Ministerial Statement on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Business Support

Cabinet agreed the Minister for the Business and Better Regulation present a Ministerial Statement on the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander business support program in the ACT Legislative Assembly.

The Program aligns with the Economy wellbeing domain, representing employment, income equality, business performance and economic diversity opportunities for ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander entrepreneurs and business owners.

Eating Disorders Residential Treatment Centre - Direct Sale – Block 3 Section 17 Coombs

Minute Number: 22/534/CAB

Cabinet agreed to the transfer of part of Block 3 Section 17 Coombs from the Suburban Land Agency to the ACT Health Directorate for the purposes of constructing an eating disorders residential treatment centre.

This proposal will enable the delivery of the first residential eating disorders treatment in the ACT leading to better and more tailored care for people experiencing eating disorders.

Tabling – Procurement Reform Program

Cabinet agreed the Special Minister of State present the overview of Procurement Reform Program to the ACT Legislative Assembly.

This Program demonstrates the Government’s commitment to implement changes to the ACT Government procurement framework to deliver more timely, efficient, effective, and accountable business outcomes, meet the policy objectives of Government and otherwise strengthen procurement practices across the ACT Public Service.

Government Response to the Select Committee on Estimates 2022-23 Report – Appropriation Bill 2022-23 and the Appropriation (Office of the Legislative Assembly) Bill 2022-23

Cabinet agreed the Government Response to the Report on the ACT Legislative Assembly Select Committee Inquiry into the ACT Budget 2022-2023 and the associated Appropriation Bills be tabled in the ACT Legislative Assembly.

Variation to Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)- National Heavy Vehicle Regulator

Minute Number: 22/547/CAB

Cabinet agreed the ACT Government sign the variation to Memorandum of Understanding between Australian Capital Territory Road Transport Authority (represented by Access Canberra) and National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (the NHVR) for 2022-2023 at the agency level.

The key wellbeing impact domains are safety and access and connectivity. The variation to the MOU marks another step towards a single, national regulator for heavy vehicles in Australia. The recent completion of the transition of heavy vehicle regulatory services in NSW will see the ACT become a part of the NHVR’s NSW operating region, making the regulation of heavy vehicle movements in the ACT region more seamless.

Ministerial Statement - Delivering the infrastructure and services for a liveable Canberra

Cabinet agreed the Chief Minister present a statement in the ACT Legislative Assembly on delivering the infrastructure and services for a liveable Canberra.

Amendment to the Work Health and Safety Act 2011

Cabinet agreed to amend the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 to confirm, for the avoidance of doubt, that the Act applies to the Legislative Assembly, its Members and others who do work to support the activities of Assembly Members.

The changes to the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 will better assure Members of the Legislative Assembly and people conducting work within its precincts that their safety is being protected.

Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Amendment Bill 2022 – Agreement to Introduce

Cabinet agreed amendments to the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 be introduced in the ACT Legislative.

The Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) Scheme ensures vulnerable people of the ACT community are protected to thrive in a safe environment. Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Amendment Bill 2022 will aim to positively impact the vulnerable community by strengthening safeguards for WWVP registration and assessments.

Report No.7 of the Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety - Inquiry into the Petition 32/21 (No Rights Without Remedy) – Government response

Minute Number: 22/480/CAB

Cabinet agreed the Government Response to the Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety Report 7 – Inquiry into the Petition 32-21 (No Rights Without Remedy).

The Government response contributes to the culture of human rights across government and the broader ACT community by promoting ongoing engagement with human rights legislation and opportunities to strengthen it.
