Cabinet agreed to the Minister for Transport and City Services setting a new perpetual care trust percentage and updated fees for the ACT Cemeteries and Crematoria Authority.

The decision will have a positive impact within the Economy domain by ensuring our cemeteries are managed in a financially sustainable way and can continue to meet the diverse needs of the community.

Government Response to Petition 50-21 - Traffic Calming Measures in Kambah

Transport Strategy Implementation Update

Cabinet noted an update on the implementation of the ACT Transport Strategy and agreed to release the draft Active Travel Plan for community consultation.

A safer, more accessible and connected city that supports Canberrans to make active, healthy and sustainable transport choices. It enhances liveability and social inclusion. Active travel is an important part of enhancing quality of life for people in our city. The improvement of active travel infrastructure in the ACT enhances liveability for all who participate and those who make the switch from travelling in their vehicle.

Transport Canberra and City Services Legislation Amendment Bill

Cabinet agreed to the drafting of a Transport Canberra and City Services Legislation Amendment Bill to amend various pieces of legislation across the Transport Canberra and City Services Directorate’s portfolio of legislation.

The TCCS Legislation Amendment Bill addresses the Governance and Institutions domain. This domain seeks to ensure Canberrans have a government and other institutions that respect human rights, are responsible, reliable, have integrity, are open and fair. The proposed amendments will provide certainty and consistency in the interpretation and application of legislation that are relied on in the provision of services for the Canberra community.

Access Canberra Sustainability Response - Service Review and Innovation

Cabinet agreed to Access Canberra undertaking a comprehensive evaluation and review of their current funding and operating model to deliver sustainable outcomes.

The submission proposal will have a positive impact to the domain of Access and Connectivity and related domains of Time, Safety and Economy.

Government Response to ACT Auditor-General’s Performance Audit Report 1/2022 titled Management of Detainee Mental Health Services at the Alexander Maconochie Centre

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Justice Health table the Government Response to Auditor-General’s Report – Performance Audit Report 1/2022 titled Management of Detainee Mental Health Services at the Alexander Maconochie Centre in the ACT Legislative Assembly.

It is anticipated the proposal will have a wellbeing impact across the Health domain. Specifically, implementing recommendations the ACT Government agreed to will contribute to sustainable improvements that will ensure the provision of safe and high-quality mental health care for detainees within the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC). In addition, it is anticipated this proposal will increase trust in the ACT Government by taking oversight agency recommendations seriously and carefully considering the need to implement them.

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Mental Health sign the Aftercare following a suicide attempt (Way Back) Transitional Bilateral Agreement.

The Way Back Transitional Bilateral Agreement will have a significant positive impact on the community through enabling continued aftercare support for people following a suicide attempt. This is a crucial factor in suicide prevention and promotion of wellbeing for the Canberra community.

COVID-19: Rapid Antigen Tests in ACT Education settings for term 3,2022

Drugs of Dependence (Personal Use) Amendment Bill 2021 and Government amendments

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Health present the Government amendments to the Drugs of Dependence (Personal Use) Amendment Bill 2021.

This proposal is expected to have a moderate impact on the Wellbeing Domain of Health. The Private Member’s Bill with Government amendments should encourage people to use health care by reducing stigma concerning health problems related to illicit drugs. The Bill will have a major impact on Living Standards for individuals, particularly young people, who avoid a criminal conviction for a minor drug offence, and the resulting damage to their prospects in life. The Bill will also have a moderate to major impact on the Wellbeing Domain of Governance and Institutions by expanding drug decriminalisation measures for more-commonly-used drugs in line with Government’s harm minimisation approach and current community expectations.

Corrections Legislation Amendment Bill 2022

Cabinet agreed to the development of the Corrections Legislation Amendment Bill 2022 which amends criminal justice legislation to address identified opportunities for improving corrective services processes and operations.

Amendments in this Bill will have impacts on Governance and Institutions, and Safety as the amendments strive to improve efficiencies for corrections administrative processes and in turn support the wellbeing of detainees and the community.
