Progress Update on the Implementation of the ACT Children and Young People’s Commitment 2015-2025

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Families and Community Services present the Ministerial Statement for the Progress Update on the Implementation of the ACT Children and Young People’s Commitment 2015-2025 (the Commitment) to the ACT Legislative Assembly and release publicly the Children and Young People lens dashboard update.

Publicly releasing wellbeing information in relation to children and young people provides the opportunity to reflect on the roles we can all play to improve the healthy development and life choices of children and young people.

Ministerial Statement – Health Infrastructure Update

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Health present a Ministerial Statement on the Health Infrastructure Update to the ACT Legislative Assembly.

The Ministerial Statement is an opportunity to highlight the positive work underway by the ACT Government to enhance health infrastructure across the Territory with primary wellbeing impacts being seen in the health and economy domains.

50th anniversary of the end of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Veterans and Seniors deliver a Ministerial Statement to the ACT Legislative Assembly to acknowledge the 50th anniversary of the end of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War.

Cabinet acknowledgement the 50th anniversary of the end of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War had a direct and positive impact supporting identity and a sense of belonging for the local veteran community.

Grass Clippings – Impact on ACT Waterways – Assembly Resolution of 24 November 2022 – Government Response

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Transport and City Services table the ACT Government’s response to the Assembly Resolution of 24 November, regarding grass clippings – impact on ACT waterways and the draft Urban Open Space Land Management Plan in the ACT Legislative Assembly.

The enhanced management strategies and operational responses will support social, cultural, environmental and economic benefits of a well-managed waterside urban open space network. The strategies and actions reflect our current knowledge and understanding of community needs and expectations, and proven land management practices.

Government Response – Stromlo Forest Park Masterplan – Mountain Biking – Assembly Resolution of 20 October 2022

Cabinet agreed the Special Minister of State present a Ministerial Statement responding to the Stromlo Forest Park Masterplan – Mountain Biking in Canberra – Assembly Resolution of 20 October 2022 to the ACT Legislative Assembly.

Continued delivery of the University of Canberra Stromlo Forest Park (UCSFP) Masterplan will have major impacts on the ACT economy through increased tourism and event attraction. The uplift in the Park’s presentation and holistic offerings will increase popularity and improve sponsorship attraction efforts, the revenue of which will contribute to upgrading / maintaining the development of UCSFP – improving its long-term financial sustainability. More tourists and event competitors will visit the ACT producing economic multiplier effects primarily across the accommodation, hospitality, and retail sectors.

Health Workforce update and Government Response to Assembly Resolution of 28 June 2023 – ACT Health workforce – Support for nursing and midwifery workers

The tabling of the Government Response will primarily impact on the safety domain, recognising that the Response seeks to promote the safety and wellbeing of road users, which affects the whole ACT community.

Canberra Region Local Food Strategy 2023-2028

Cabinet agreed the release of the draft Canberra Region Local Food Strategy 2023-2028 for targeted public consultation.

The Canberra Region Local Food Strategy 2023-2028 will positively impact the wellbeing of the Canberra community, environment, and economy by supporting and encouraging the ACT and surrounding Capital Region to grow produce in environmentally sensitive, climate-resilient ways, with better community access to healthy, sustainable, and affordable foods. Canberrans will be more engaged, aware, and included in production of agricultural and other natural products.

Heritage Jurisdictional Review – Phase 1

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Heritage publicly release the report of the Heritage Jurisdictional Review - Phase 1 and commence public consultation to guide and inform a government response.

The Heritage Jurisdiction Review identifies opportunities to strengthen the protection, conservation, and management of the ACT’s Aboriginal, cultural, and natural heritage. They will impact across the identity and belonging, environment and climate change, economic, and governance and institutions wellbeing domains by raising awareness, understanding and appreciation of heritage and improving the management of our valuable heritage assets.

Circular Economy Bill 2023 – Agreement to Introduce

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Transport Canberra and City Services present the Circular Economy Bill 2023 to the ACT Legislative Assembly.

This proposal sets the framework for introduction of circular economy principles to waste management to support delivery of ACT Government commitments outlined in the ACT Circular Economy Strategy 2023-2030 and the Parliamentary and Governing Agreement for the 10th Legislative Assembly of the ACT.

Children and Young People Amendment Bill 2023 – Agreement to Introduce

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Families and Communities introducing the Children and Young People Amendment Bill 2023 in the Legislative Assembly.

The Children and Young People Amendment Bill 2023 will have positive impacts for the ACT community in relation to improvements in social connection and governance and institutions. The Bill will have a positive impact on children and young people’s sense of safety and their sense of identity and belonging within their family and their community.

ACT Government Circular Economy Strategy (Final) and Action Plan

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Transport and City Services release the final ACT Circular Economy Strategy and Action Plan.

As the ACT Government continues to develop a circular economy framework for the ACT, it is anticipated that there will be positive wellbeing impacts across the environment and climate and economy wellbeing domains.

Road Safety Legislation Amendment Bill 2023 – Policy Approval

Cabinet agreed to the drafting of the Road Transport Legislation Amendment Bill 2023.

The purpose of the Cabinet Submission is to seek Cabinet’s agreement to the draft policy positions to the Road Safety Legislation Amendment Bill 2023. The draft policy positions will aim to amend the legislation to meet commitments under the ACT Road Safety Strategy 2020-25 and the ACT Road Safety Action Plan 2020-23 both of which outline the ACT Government’s commitment to the realisation of Vision Zero (zero deaths or serious injuries on ACT’s roads).
