Government Submission - Standing Committee on Education and Community Inclusion - Inquiry into Disability Inclusion Bill 2024

Cabinet agreed the ACT Government’s Submission to the Standing Committee on Education and Community Inclusion’s inquiry into the Disability Inclusion Bill 2024.

The main domain under the Wellbeing Impact Assessment is Governance and Institutions, although the Disability Inclusion Bill 2024 will impact on every Wellbeing Indicator.

Ministerial Statement – Government Response - Auditor-General Report No. 8/2023 – Supports for students with disability in ACT public schools

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Education and Youth Affairs present a Ministerial Statement to the ACT Legislative Assembly on the Government Response to Auditor-General Report No. 8/2023 - Supports for students with disability in ACT public schools.

The Government response to the Auditor-General's Report No. 8 of 2023 – Supports for students with disability in ACT public schools outlines work that will strengthen inclusion in all ACT public schools to benefit students with and without disability. This work aligns with the wellbeing domain of Education and Lifelong Learning.

Government Response the Standing Committee on Public Accounts – Inquiry into the Appropriation Bill 2023-2024 (No.2) and Appropriation (Office of the Legislative Assembly) Bill 2023 2024 (No. 2)

Cabinet agreed the Government Response to the recommendations made by the ACT Legislative Assembly Standing Committee on Public Accounts Inquiry into the ACT Budget Review 2023-2024 and the associated Supplementary Appropriation Bills.

Under the requirements of the ACT Government Cabinet Handbook, no Wellbeing Impact Assessment was required for this item.

Canberra Racing Club proposal to redevelop Thoroughbred Park

Cabinet agreed the establishment of the ‘Thoroughbred Park Housing and Revitalisation Steering Committee’ comprising senior officials to consider the Canberra Racing Club’s proposal to redevelop Thoroughbred Park.

The establishment of the Thoroughbred Park Housing and Revitalisation Steering Committee will support consideration of issues and key considerations related to the proposed redevelopment of Thoroughbred Park.

Submission to the Inquiry into Environment Protection (Fossil Fuel Company Advertising) Amendment Bill

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Trade, Investment and Economic Development provide a submission to the Inquiry into the Environment Protection (Fossil Fuel Company Advertising) Amendment Bill 2024. A Government Submission has not been submitted due to Greens Ministers not supporting the position outlined.

The Submission by the Minister for Trade, Investment and Economic Development recognises the importance of effective policy to address climate change and maintain the economic wellbeing of the Territory. However, the introduction of the Private Members Bill (PMB) may impact on the economic wellbeing of the Territory due to the potential difficulty of attracting sporting teams and events to the Territory.

2024-2025 Budget Phase 2 Nurse Ratios

Cabinet agreed the implementation of Phase Two Mandated Minimum Nurse/Midwife-to-patient ratios.

Phase Two Mandated Minimum Nurse/Midwife-to-Patient Ratios is expected to have a positive impact on health and safety for patients accessing care in ACT public health services, as well as have a positive impact on wellbeing for nursing and midwifery staff.
