Crimes Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 – Agreement to introduce

Cabinet agreed the Attorney-General present the Crimes Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 to the ACT Legislative Assembly.
The Crimes Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 will have wellbeing impacts across the governance and institutions, and the safety wellbeing domains. The reforms will have major impacts on trust in government as they will help to ensure that laws relating to the ACT criminal justice system remain fit for purpose.
Corrections Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 - Policy Approval

Cabinet agreed the development of the Corrections Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 which amends criminal justice legislation to improve corrective services processes and operations.
Amendments in this Bill will have impacts on Governance and Institutions, and the safety wellbeing domains as the reforms will improve efficiencies for corrections administrative processes and support the wellbeing of detainees and the community.
ACT Infrastructure Plan Update – City Services, Recreation and Community Facilities Sector

Cabinet agreed the City Services, Recreation and Community Facilities sector update to the ACT Infrastructure Plan.
The provision of infrastructure is a significant enabler of wellbeing and is vital to enable the sustainable growth of Canberra’s communities. The sector updates to the ACT Infrastructure Plan will positively impact the wellbeing of the Canberra community and economy by ensuring that the Government’s infrastructure priorities remain appropriate to our community and that sector needs are communicated clearly. The updated City Services, Recreation and Community Facilities sector includes projects which will have positive direct and indirect impacts to the domains of Safety, Social Connection, Economy and Governance and Institutions.
Nature Conservation Amendment Bill 2024

Cabinet agreed the development of a Bill to make minor and technical amendments to the Nature Conservation Act 2014.
Proposed amendments will enhance the operation of the Nature Conservation Act 2014 including increased efficiency, clarity and regulatory responses to protect, conserve and enhance the ACT’s biodiversity.
Standing Committee on Public Accounts – Report 20 – Inquiry into Auditor General’s Performance Audit Reports July – December 2022 – Government Response

The submission focuses on maintaining and improving, where appropriate, ACT Government programs and services. It seeks to address the health and governance and institutions domains of the Wellbeing Framework.

Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Reduction (Membership) Amendment Bill 2024

Cabinet agreed to the Minister for Water, Energy and Emissions Reduction present the Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Reduction (Membership) Amendment Bill 2024 in the ACT Legislative Assembly.
The Bill proposes amendments to ACT Climate Change Council’s membership to include at least two Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members. The legislative proposal aligns with the ACT Government’s commitment to ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives are represented in climate change policy related decision-making.

Ministerial Statement – Active Travel Statement

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Transport present a statement on active travel in the ACT Legislative Assembly.
The ACT Government released the ACT Transport Strategy in 2020 and since that time we’ve been working to improve active travel through funding infrastructure projects and most recently through the release of the Active Travel Plan 2024-30 which sets out how we will continue to support more Canberrans to choose walking and cycling more often to improve quality of life.
Ministerial Statement – Update on Transport Canberra’s Bus Fleet

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Transport present a Ministerial Statement relating to the Transport Canberra bus fleet delivery program to the ACT Legislative Assembly.
As part of the Territory’s commitment to a zero-emission future, Transport Canberra will replace their fleet of ageing and non-Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth) compliant Buses with leased low emission diesel vehicles and battery electric buses (BEB). By reducing the carbon footprint of our bus fleet in supply and operations, the Territory contributes to less greenhouse emissions, and potentially increased resilience against the effects of climate change. By establishing the infrastructure and equipment for use in zero-emission public transport and replacing existing fleet assets, the Territory will provide a direct and sustained impact on the environment and climate.
Ministerial Statement – United States Trade Mission, Sep/Oct 2023

Cabinet agreed the Chief Minister present the Ministerial Statement – United States Trade Mission, Sep/Oct 2023 to the ACT Legislative Assembly in the Sitting Week 6-8 February 2024.
The Wellbeing domain that the trade mission is most closely aligned to is Economy. The changes to wellbeing from this are both short and long term – notably assisting in diversifying and growing the ACT economy for all Canberrans.
