Government response to ACT Legislative Assembly resolution on voluntary assisted dying access and loss of capacity issues

Cabinet agreed to the Minister for Health presenting the Government response to a Legislative Assembly Resolution of 6 June 2024 and tabling the accompanying report, “Decision-making capacity following final approval for voluntary assisted dying - an exploration of issues and feedback”.
This Cabinet Submission relates to the wellbeing domains of health, governance and institutions, time and safety. This proposal encompasses delivery of a Ministerial Statement and public release of a research report on the issue and may impact community engagement and public discussion on this issue.
Government Response – Belconnen Town Centre - Primary and secondary school – Proposed establishment Assembly resolution of 15 May 2024

Cabinet agreed to the Minister for Education and Early Childhood tabling Belconnen Town Centre – Primary and Secondary School – Proposed Establishment: Government Response and accompanying Ministerial Statement in the ACT Legislative Assembly in the first or second sitting week of May 2025.
The main wellbeing impacts of this submission are education and life-long learning and living standards.
Government Response – Petition 002-25 – Hawker Village Shops Redevelopment

Cabinet agreed a Government Response to Petition 002-25 that was tabled in the ACT Legislative Assembly on 6 February 2025.
A planning priority is to deliver more housing close to shopping centres and public transport to create a better connected, accessible, and sustainable city is a longstanding aspiration of the ACT Planning Strategy 2018 and is being implemented through the Minister for Planning and Sustainable Development Planning Priorities. Providing more housing in and around shopping centres is an opportunity to renew ageing community hubs whilst retaining and growing retail and other services that are enjoyed by the community.
Environment Legislation Amendment Bill 2025

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Climate Change, Environment, Energy and Water present the Environment Legislation Amendment Bill 2025 to the Legislative Assembly.
The Environment Legislation Amendment Bill 2025 is a technical omnibus bill that will not have a significant impact on wellbeing domains. Technical omnibus bills are administrative in nature, and do not change the policy underpinning legislation.
Canberra Theatre Redevelopment – Capital Business Case and Early Contractor Involvement Procurement

Cabinet agreed the release of the budget provision required for the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) Phase for Stage One of the Canberra Theatre Redevelopment and to authorise the ACT Government to entering into a ECI Agreement with Multiplex Constructions for Stage One of the project.
A new Lyric Theatre will have a positive impact on the identity and belonging of Canberra as a centre of creativity. Arts and culture connect people with ideas, emotions, and stories. It will also enhance Canberra's cultural, social and economic wellbeing.

Under the requirements of the ACT Government Cabinet Handbook, Wellbeing Impact Assessments are not required for appointments.
