Government Response to the recommendations from the Our Booris, Our Way Review – Implementation Update – 2024 (January to December)

Cabinet agreed the Minister for Children, Youth and Families provide a Ministerial Statement on the progress on the Government Response to the recommendations of the Our Booris, Our Way final report and to tabling Government Response to the recommendations from the Our Booris, Our Way Review – Implementation Update – 2024(January to December) in the ACT Legislative Assembly

Implementation of the Our Booris, Our Way recommendations focus on reducing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people in the child protection system, improving the experience of children and young people whilst in care, and increasing pathways for restoration to parents, kin and culture. The Government remains committed to delivering the remaining recommendations of the Our Booris Our Way review to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people grow up connected to their family and culture.

Implementing National Competition Policy reforms

Cabinet agreed to provide the ACT’s Jurisdiction Specific Reform Plan to the Commonwealth Government, which outlines a pathway to the ACT implementing national competition policy reforms to liberalise and standardise commercial zoning rules and review planning requirements to ensure they do not distort competition; lower barriers to modern methods of construction; and give effect to new and updated competition principles.

The National Competition Policy implementation reform will have broad positive impacts for the ACT economy, including supporting growth in real incomes. The reforms will deliver a range of benefits for consumers, workers, and businesses by removing impediments to competition, encourage business entry and expansion through streamlined and standardised commercial planning and zoning regulations and processes; and, embracing innovative off-site construction methods, such as prefabricated and modular housing, which can lower housing costs and reduce labour shortages.
