ACT Government Submission to the Select Committee - Inquiry into Caretaker Conventions

Cabinet agreed the ACT Government Submission to the Legislative Assembly Select Committee - Inquiry into Caretaker Conventions.
The ACT Government submission to the Select Committee - Inquiry into Caretaker Conventions will provide a positive impact to the ACT community through open access and transparency of government information.
Road Transport (Safety and Traffic Management) Amendment Bill 2025 - Combined Pass

Cabinet agreed to introduce amendments to the Road Transport (Safety and Traffic Management) Act 1999 and other relevant legislation to support future traffic camera enforcement of seatbelt requirements.
The proposal has positive impacts to the Safety wellbeing domain due to its enhancement of enforcing existing seatbelt requirements. Wearing a seatbelt significantly reduces risk of serious injury or death in a crash. Minor positive impacts are also anticipated to the Governance and Institutions domain by ensuring our legislation is accurate and in line with operational enforcement activities that improve road safety for the community. Minor positive impacts on the Health and Economy domains is expected due to the flow-on effects of a reduction in serious injuries and road fatalities in the long term.
Preventing the extinction of the Canberra Grassland Earless Dragon

Cabinet agreed to funding in the ACT Budget 2025-26 and associated communication arrangements to support preventing the extinction of the Canberra Grassland Earless Dragon.
Wellbeing impacts across the environment and climate domain will be met through the expansion of the captive colony to maintain genetic diversity; preserving, enhancing and reconnecting critical grassland habitats; and reintroducing Canberra Grassland Earless Dragons into the wild to boost survival chances. This initiative will also benefit other threatened species in the grassland ecosystem and showcase the ACT Government’s dedication to biodiversity, with added advantages to health, education and lifelong learning.
Government Position – Financial Management Amendment Bill 2025 – Private Member’s Bill

Cabinet agreed the Attorney-General provide a government submission to the Standing Committee on the Integrity Commission and Statutory Office Holders inquiry into the operation of the 2024 ACT Election and the Electoral Act 1992.
The government submission to the inquiry into the operation of the 2024 ACT Election and the Electoral Act 1992 highlights its commitment to continued evaluation and improvement in the political and electoral process to ensure all Canberrans, especially vulnerable cohorts, remain confident in the ACT electoral system.
Chief Minister’s Statement on public accessibility of government information

Cabinet agreed to the Chief Minister’s Statement on accessibility of government information.
The Chief Minister’s statement requires ACT Government agencies to make progressive improvements in the accessibility of government information. These actions have the potential to have a positive wellbeing impact on citizens’ engagement with government, and support productivity and innovation through increased use and reuse of government information and data. The transparent nature of publicly accessible information can increase the levels of trust in ACT Government policies and decisions.
May 2025 Six Monthly Progress Report – Assembly Resolution – Public housing – minimum energy efficiency standards – Proposed upgrade

Cabinet agreed to the tabling of a report to the Legislative Assembly in response to the Resolution of the Assembly 29 November 2023 – Public housing – Minimum energy efficiency standard – Proposed upgrade.
The upgrade of ceiling insulation in public housing will have a direct and sustained positive impact on the thermal comfort and energy costs for project participants. These impacts apply to approximately 3,500 households in public housing properties.
Landfill Capping and Development Project and Accounting Update
