New ACT Aquatic Strategy

Cabinet agreed to the draft scope for the new ACT Aquatic Strategy.
Cabinet agreed to the development of an ACT Aquatic Strategy with a scope that is expected to have a positive enabling impact on wellbeing by establishing a structured, evidence-based approach to identifying current and future community needs for access to aquatic facilities.
National Cabinet – Health and Disability Negotiations

Cabinet agreed the Chief Minister finalise negotiations and sign the Health and Disability Heads of Agreement at National Cabinet on 30 January 2026.

Firearms (Public Safety) Amendment Bill 2026

Cabinet agreed for the Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services to introduce the
Firearms (Public Safety) Amendment Bill 2026 to the Legislative Assembly.
The Firearms (Public Safety) Amendment Bill 2026 will have positive wellbeing impacts in the
domains of governance and institutions and safety, by promoting a safer community
environment through the enhanced regulation of firearms in the ACT.
Firearms (Firearm Prohibition Orders) Amendment Bill 2026

Cabinet agreed to the presentation of the Firearms (Firearm Prohibition Orders) Amendment Bill 2026 which will amend the Firearms Act 1996 to introduce a Firearms Prohibition Order scheme into the ACT.
The Firearm Prohibition Order scheme will have wellbeing impacts across the safety domain. By preventing and responding to firearm-related crime and violence, and helping disrupt the illicit firearm market, the reforms will have major impacts on community safety.
ACT Domestic and Family Violence Review Biennial Report 2025

Cabinet agreed to the ACT Government submitting the ACT Domestic and Family Violence Review Biennial Review Report 2025 to the Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs Inquiry into the relationship between domestic, family and sexual violence and suicide.
The ACT Government submission of the ACT Domestic and Family Violence Review Biennial Review Report 2025 to the Inquiry will positively impact the safety wellbeing domains by contributing to research and understanding of the impacts of domestic and family violence and links to suicide.
Ministerial statement and report – Child Safety in early childhood settings: Insights from the sector and community

Update on Electronic Monitoring

Cabinet agreed to the Justice and Community Safety Directorate continuing work on options to introduce electronic monitoring in the ACT Justice System.
Electronic Monitoring presents an opportunity to improve justice outcomes for offenders, increase compliance with community based orders and promote community safety. Electronic monitoring can support new community based options as an alternative to incarceration that can improve social connection, identity and belonging and access to justice for those being monitored.
