The overarching selection process for medical graduates is guided by the merit and equity principles. The ACT Government’s response to this petition acknowledges the complexity of IMGs entering the Australian health care system and outlines Canberra Health Services (CHS) recruitment processes; addresses barriers to requested recruitment reporting and observership placements, the selection process is guided by the merit and equity principles.

Government Response to E-PET-049-25 – Dangerous Crossing in Griffith

ACT Government position – Australia’s ratification of International Labour Organization Conventions C192 and C129

Cabinet agreed the ACT Government support Australia’s consideration to progress steps to formally ratify International Labour Organization Conventions (Biological Hazards in the Working Environment, 2025 (C192) and Labour Inspection (Agriculture), 1969 (C129).

ACT Government support for Australia’s consideration of formal ratification of two International Labour Organization Conventions strengthens Australia’s legal framework to promote the fundamental principle and right to a safe and healthy working environment.

Molonglo Town Centre - Masterplan

Minute Number: 26/213/CAB

Cabinet agreed to the development intent of the Molonglo Town Centre Masterplan.

The Molonglo Town Centre is expected to make a meaningful contribution to several domains of the ACT Wellbeing Framework including housing and home, economy, environment and climate, access and connectivity and education and life-long learning. The development of a sustainable, integrated town centre in the Molonglo Valley containing residential, commercial, retail and community services will support an estimated 70,000 residents when the district is fully developed.

Assembly Resolution – Water quality – lakes and waterways - improvement

Cabinet agreed a decision on becoming a signatory to the Swimmable Cities Charter, and the Ministerial Statement from the Minister for Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water that outlines the ACT Government’s response to the Legislative Assembly Resolution of 28 October 2025 Water quality – lakes and waterways – improvement.

Consultation Paper – Gas Appliance Regulation

Cabinet agreed to the Minister for Climate Change, Environment, Energy and Water undertaking a public consultation process on the approach to regulating appliances that will use a connection to the gas network.

Undertaking a public consultation process on the approach to regulating appliances that require a gas network connection will support positive wellbeing impacts for the living standards, environment and climate, and economy domains.

Fuel Legislation Amendment Bill 2026

Minute Number: 26/282/CAB

Cabinet agreed to the amendments proposed in the Fuel Legislation Amendment Bill 2026. The amendments will allow the collection of information that will better support decisions to maintain the security of the ACT’s fuel supply.

The Fuel Legislation Amendment Bill 2026 will have a positive impact on the wellbeing of ACT residents and businesses. The changes proposed will provide for better decision making regarding any future decision regarding fuel security; support better calibration and timing and thereby minimising disruption and economic impacts.

Commonwealth Government First Home Buyer Initiative

Cabinet agreed that the ACT Government would participate in the Commonwealth Government’s First Home Buyer Initiative through the Federation Funding Framework.

Participating in the Commonwealth Government’s First Home Buyer Initiative will support increased housing supply for first home buyers in the ACT.

ACT Government Response to E-PET-071-25 and PET-019-26 – Community-based Parkinsons Disease Nurse for Residents in the ACT

Cabinet agreed to the ACT Government response to E-PET-071-25 and PET-019-26 - Community-based Parkinson's Disease nurse for residents in the ACT.

Expansion of movement disorder services with the establishment of a community-based Parkinson’s Disease (PD) service for patients for ACT residents, supported by an additional Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) position within the Brindabella Day Service will facilitate integrated care and support people living with Parkinson’s Disease in the community. This position will provide and lead to improved health and wellbeing outcomes for people living with Parkinsons as consumers can receive care within the ACT. The Parkinson’s Community-based Nurse plays a key role in continuity of care, symptom management, medication optimisation, and reducing avoidable hospital demand. When that role is absent, this has impacts at the health service level and for the patient and family wellbeing.

Access to health services for Aboriginal people in the North of Canberra E-PET-065-25 Government Response

Petitions and government responses contribute positively to the Governance and institutions domain through building trust in ACT Government processes. The petition seeks to improve access to primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Canberra’s north. The response outlines investment made in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and acknowledges the importance of ongoing work to close the gap in health outcomes for First Nations Canberrans.

Petition – Bike Path adjacent to Waters Edge, Greenway – Government Response

The new paths and bridge infrastructure will have a positive impact on residents and users of Lake Tuggeranong.

Petitions – Margaret Timpson Park – Government Response

Cabinet agreed that the Minister for Homes, Homelessness & New Suburbs provide the response to petitions E-PET-076-25, PET-007-26, PET-009-26 and PET-017-26 to the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly.

The release of Belconnen Block 45 Section enables the development of 60 new homes, directly contributing to the Government’s commitment to deliver 30,000 new homes by 2030. This will have a positive impact on the community by supporting additional community housing and further activate Margaret Timpson Park through integrated built form along with ground floor commercial spaces. The development will have a positive impact across the Wellbeing Framework, including a positive impact on the Housing and Home domain and indirect positive impacts on the Access and Connectivity, Time, Economy, Living standards, Social Connection and Health wellbeing domains.
