Victims of crime

Being a victim of crime can have a significant impact on individual and community wellbeing.

'Crime victimisation' is an indicator of the government objective to contribute to a safe and secure community that enables people to undertake their lawful pursuits confidently and safely.

Victimisation rate of personal crime

This measure shows the rate of people who were victims of personal crime per 100,000 population.

Being a victim of crime can have a big impact on individual and community wellbeing.

In 2024-25, ACT Policing recorded 895.5 offences against people (per 100,000 population). This is an increase compared to 2023-24.

This measure comprises offences against the person reported or becoming known to police during the reporting period. Offences against the person include: homicide and related offences, assaults, sexually based offences, and kidnap offences. These offences are grouped using the ANCO variable in PROMIS, specifically ANCO '111' to '199C'.

For the purposes of this measure, ACT Policing PROMIS data is sourced as of the first day after the end of the reporting period, 2 July 2025 in the case of 2024-25 data.

ACT population data is obtained from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) National, state and territory population statistics, March 2024 published 19 September 2024.

This measure shows the rate of property offences per 100,000 population. This is important because being a victim of crime can have a big impact on individual and community wellbeing.

In 2024-25, ACT Policing recorded 2957.9 offences against property (per 100,000 population).

In the last three years the number of people reporting being the victim of property crime has decreased.

Property offences include, but are not limited to, robbery, burglary, motor vehicle thefts, property damage and other offences against property (including fraud, traffic, drug and weapon offences and other offences not elsewhere classified).

This measure represents the number of property offences reported to or becoming known to ACT Policing per 100,000 population.
