Having a say, being heard, and working together for better outcomes
All Canberrans can have their say, connect with and be part of key government processes. Canberrans have a government and other institutions that respect human rights, are responsible, reliable, have integrity, are open, and are fair.
Wellbeing Indicators
Communities have higher wellbeing when people are sure their government will act ethically. This means having ‘checks and balances’ to make sure we have a fair democratic government. This includes making sure everyone can have a say in political decisions and that people feel like the government considers their opinions.
The community also needs to have confidence in other institutions that influence wellbeing. It is important that the community is confident in and can access the justice system and restorative practices. Canberrans also need to feel sure that the government will protect their basic human rights.
Governance and Institutions looks at:
- how much Canberrans trust the government and community organisations
- if people feel like their voice and opinions matter to those in charge
- the timeliness of the justice system
- whether Canberrans think that the government respects and protects human rights.
