Commonwealth State Relations
Providing information and advice that represents the needs of the ACT Government and community.
What we do
We support the ACT's Chief Minister and the Head of Service to take part in the following meetings:
The information and advice we provide helps them to represent the needs of the ACT Government and community. This is both in discussions about national issues and in decisions which benefit the ACT.
We work with different areas across the ACT public service to make sure:
- advice on policy issues is up-to-date and accurate
- decisions are based on evidence
- information is shared when required.
We also work with other states, territories and the Commonwealth through a range of meetings and working groups. Together, we make progress on issues identified as priorities by National Cabinet and the Council for the Australian Federation.
Councils and forums
National Cabinet
National Cabinet was formed on 13 March 2020. It is the key forum for the Prime Minister, State Premiers and Territory Chief Ministers to work together on shared issues and priorities.
To find out more, see National Cabinet.
The Council for the Australian Federation
The Council for the Australian Federation was formed in 2006. This council is where state and territory leaders discuss and resolve important matters separately from the Australian Government.
To learn more about this, see the Council for the Australian Federation.
