There are 47 non-government schools in the ACT. These reflect our community's broad range of educational and religious philosophies.

Non-government schools:

  • have their own individual process for enrolment
  • charge school fees, which vary in price
  • may have different term dates to government schools.

To find a Catholic systemic school near you, visit the Catholic Education Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn.

Marist College Canberra, St Edmund's College and Daramalan College are Catholic independent schools and not part of this system (they are members of the Association of Independent Schools of the ACT).

Regulation of non-government schools

The ACT Government is responsible for regulating non-government schools.

Our Registrar of non-government schools is required by law to carry out a number of functions, including to:

  • keep a register (list) of all non-government schools
  • administer the registration of non-government schools
  • develop an annual registration review program, in collaboration with the Registration Standards Advisory Board
  • carry out registration reviews of registered schools.
