What we do

We promote Canberra and the region as a visitor destination and support growth in the ACT visitor economy. We focus on:

  • destination marketing – promoting Canberra to domestic and international audiences through campaigns, media and travel trade engagement
  • tourism growth – growing visitation, longer stays and visitor spend, in line with the ACT Tourism Strategy
  • visitor information – helping visitors plan and book their trip through the Canberra and Region Visitors Centre and VisitCanberra website
  • events and experiences promotion – promoting major events, national attractions and Canberra experiences
  • industry development – helping tourism businesses prepare for trade, and providing promotion opportunities, resources and funding information.

We work with tourism, events, government, cultural and industry partners to promote Canberra and the region, support tourism businesses and grow the visitor economy.

Government networks

We work with government and public sector organisations that support destination marketing, tourism growth and major events.

  • Tourism Australia – works with the ACT on international campaigns, media hosting, trade education and raising awareness of Canberra in priority markets
  • Destination Southern NSW – supports visitor economy across southern NSW through industry engagement, training and regional coordination
  • EventsACT – partners with us to promote major events and increase their tourism impact
  • VenuesACT – works with us to promote key events and support visitor activity
  • National cultural institutions – help showcase Canberra’s national attractions, collections and stories
Industry and local stakeholders

We work with tourism operators, hospitality businesses and local partners that deliver visitor experiences and support the tourism economy.

  • Tourism and hospitality businesses – help create and deliver visitor experiences, accommodation and tours
  • Local producers and hospitality vendors – contribute to destination experiences that showcase Canberra’s food and drink offer
  • Local communities – contribute to visitor experiences and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tourism development
  • Canberra Airport – works with the ACT on route growth and making Canberra easier to reach and visit
  • National Capital Educational Tourism Project – works with the ACT Government to market Canberra as a school excursion destination and support teacher engagement with National Cultural Institutions
  • Canberra Convention Bureau – promotes Canberra as a business events destination and supports event planners with free advice and industry connections
  • National Capital Attractions Association – works with the ACT Government to help deliver the ACT Tourism Awards Business Development Program and shares information with tourism businesses and member organisations.
