An ACT Government Website

Pests, diseases and weeds can travel with you as you visit different areas of Australia. Quarantine keeps plants away from others to stop pests and diseases from spreading. There are restrictions on what you can take as you cross state and quarantine borders within Australia. Following the rules about moving these items will help to protect local farms and environments.

A Plant Health Certificate, which is a type of biosecurity certificate, shows plants have been checked and are free from pests and diseases. These certificates are necessary when bringing plants into or out of a country or across state lines. To get this certificate, you must

  1. Check the rules of the state you are sending to by contacting the relevant state or territory quarantine regulator.
  2. If you meet all requirements, book an inspection with ACT Biosecurity on 02 6207 3587 or by email ACTBiosecurity@act.gov.au.
  3. When an inspection is booked, apply for a Plant Health Certificate for moving plant material between states.

Licencing and Compliance do not provide or administer treatments for affected plants.
