Licences for scientific purposes

To take and release animals for scientific purposes, you must apply for a licence.

All applications for this purpose must include the following if applicable:

• animal ethics approval
• approval under the Bird and Bat Banding Scheme.

If you are issued with a licence, you must submit the ACT Wildlife Atlas Record Sheet for animals and plants. Return this to Licensing and Compliance at the end of your project or when you renew your licence.

Apply online for a licence to take, release, keep, kill, import, export animals for scientific purposes.

No fees apply to this licence application.

Live fish licences

Most fish are managed under the Fisheries Act 2000. An import or export licence lets you bring live fish in or out of the ACT. A Scientific Licence allows you to take fish for scientific or teaching purposes.

Apply online for a licence to:

• import or export live fish into or out of the ACT or release live fish
• take fish for scientific purposes

Using plants for non-commercial and scientific purposes

To take and use specific plants or parts of plants for non-commercial or scientific purposes, you must have a licence.

Once you have the licence, you must submit the ACT Wildlife Atlas Data Entry Template for plants.

Apply online for a licence to use plants, soil or stone for non-commercial or scientific purposes.
