Commercial licences to remove native animals

Possum removal

It is an offence to take and release native animals without a licence.

Commercial pest controllers can get a licence to take possums and release them within 50 metres of their capture site.

Venomous reptile removal

It is illegal to take and release venomous reptiles in the ACT without a licence.

Because of the significant risks involved, to get a licence for this activity you must have:

• public liability insurance of $20 million,
• a current first aid qualification, and
• participated in a venomous snake handling course.
