Applying to damage land, remove native trees and interfere with nests
Native plants are protected under the Nature Conservation Act 2014.
In the ACT, you must have a licence to:
- take certain plants or parts of plants
- collect seeds and plants from unleased land
- remove soil or stone from reserves
- damage land in reserves
- remove or damage a native tree or fallen timber from leased or unleased land
- interfere with nests or things next to the nest of native animals
- drive a vehicle on a management trail in a reserve.
Damaging land in a reserve
You must have a licence to damage land in a nature reserve, including destroying or removing clay, gravel, rock, sand, soil and stone.

You must have a licence to damage a native tree or take fallen timber from unleased or leased land.

Interfering with nests
To interfere with a nest or something in the immediate environment of a nest of a native animal, you must have a licence.

Drive a motor vehicle on a management trail in a reserve
In most reserves, it’s illegal to use a motor vehicle on a management trail without a licence.
You can apply for a licence to drive in a reserve for:
- utilities management
- approved research
- government contract work.
