The ACT health service data dashboard provides a snapshot of the latest available data on the activity and performance of ACT public health services. The dashboard replaces the ACT Public Health Services Quarterly Performance Report to provide Canberrans with more timely and accessible information about the activity and performance of the ACT public health system. The data in each dashboard will be updated monthly where available. The dashboard includes data on:
- care provided in emergency departments (EDs)
- elective surgery
- care provided in walk-in centres (WiCs)
- safety and quality indicators, including hand hygiene and patient experience.
The suite of metrics in the ACT health service data dashboard will be expanded. In the future, additional metrics related to activity and performance in the admitted patient care, walk-in centre and outpatient domains will be included.
The dashboard is managed by the Data Analytics Branch at the Health and Community Services Directorate, with data sourced from the ACT Health Data Repository and Canberra Health Services.
Health domains
Emergency department The ACT provides free public hospital emergency care to people who are seriously ill or injured and need urgent treatment or life-saving care. In the ACT, there are 2 public hospital EDs – one at Canberra Hospital and the other at North Canberra Hospital. EDs are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Elective surgery waiting listElective surgery or planned surgery are surgeries that are booked in advance. Elective surgery is provided by Canberra Health Services at Canberra Hospital, North Canberra Hospital, and a number of private hospitals on behalf of Canberra Health Services.
Walk-in centreNurse-led WiCs provide free health care for non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses to anyone over one year of age. WiCs are part of the national network of Medicare Urgent Care Clinics, providing more health services and care options for Canberrans. Patients requiring urgent attention for serious injury or illness are directed to EDs.
Safety and quality of the health systemThe safety and quality of healthcare provided to patients is measured in a number of ways. This domain includes information on compliance with nationally recognised hand hygiene practices and the results of patient experience surveys.
