What we do

We make sure the ACT Government hears from young people on the issues that affect them.

We:

• ensure young Canberrans are heard on the issues that affect them
• create opportunities for young people to contribute to ACT Government decisions
• support young people to go to events
• support young people to join forums and advisory groups
• recognise and celebrate young people's achievements
• provide grants and scholarships that support personal and professional development.

Advisory councils and groups

• ACT Youth Advisory Council: A group of young people aged 12 to 25 who provide diverse voices and give advice to the ACT Government on youth issues.
• ACT Youth Assembly: An annual event for Canberrans aged 12 to 25 to share their ideas and lived experience with the ACT Government.

Events

ACT Youth Week: events that celebrate and recognise the contribution of young people. Normally held in April each year all over Australia.

Awards and grants

• Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Awards: recognise achievements in areas like community work, sport, education, science, culture, the arts and the environment.
• ACT Youth Week Grants: for ACT Youth Week projects, events and activities that involve and connect young people (aged 12 to 25) and celebrate their diversity and contributions to our community.
• Youth InterACT Grants: funding to help young people develop and deliver new and innovative projects in their communities.
• Youth InterACT Scholarships: funding to help young people attend events, courses or other activities.
