A new plan to help the Dickson group centre grow and thrive includes temporary changes to make Woolley Street and the village area more people-focused. The Dickson Place Plan has been created in collaboration with the local community and builds on the area’s existing character.

Get out and about with Getaboutable

Getaboutable aims to give people with disabilities the confidence to get out and about. Earlier this year they received a City Grant to help start the Accessible Canberra Project, aimed at encouraging businesses within Civic to be more inclusive through increasing accessibility information.

Green light for precinct diversity

Pedestrian lights at a Braddon intersection have been changed from a “walking man” to walking same-sex couples. The eight green pedestrian lights at the intersection of Cooyong Street with Lonsdale and Genge streets are the first to be changed within the City Renewal Precinct as part of a new place initiative.

Underground bus interchange feasibility study

The City Renewal Authority is exploring the potential benefits of replacing the current City Bus Interchange with an integrated underground bus interchange. A tender has been issued for a feasibility study to determine whether an underground facility, protected from the weather and with direct connections to the new light rail, would be a practical long-term option for the city centre.

2025 Strategic Plan

Our strategic plan through to 2025 takes its lead from the ACT Government's vision for the city, to be 'one of the world's great innovation, creative and arts cities while remaining the world's most liveable city,' and its related strategies and policies. Five strategic goals are laid out in the plan along with objectives required to achieve them.

City Grants fund a 2019 entertainment assault

A one-day Latin festival and a 22-tonne military truck, repurposed to deliver a barrage of art and music across Civic and Braddon, headline the City Grants winners for the first half of next year. Other funded projects include free outdoor yoga in Civic, Shakespeare performances in Glebe Park, an urban treasure hunt event and outdoor entertainment as part of the Canberra Comedy Festival.

Visit an art gallery with a twist this spring in Canberra’s city centre – the ANCA Art Bus. Experience an iconic Canberra Action Bus repurposed into a mobile gallery space that will play host to exhibitions by local contemporary artists.
