Pedestrian-friendly infrastructure provides a range of social, health and economic benefits.

Our Better City Streets initiative highlights the features that make public spaces easier to move around and more enjoyable to spend time in. This creates opportunities for local shops and, in turn, a more attractive and exciting City Centre for all.

We have commissioned urban design firm Adams Urban to share data and research on the benefits and features of better city streets.

What we heard

Thank you to those who provided feedback during the consultation period from 26 November 2024 - 26 February 2025. Consultation for Better City Streets has now closed.

We received 2,731 pieces of feedback during the consultation period. This feedback has been published as part of a listening report which includes revisions to draft designs where appropriate.
