Overview
Infrastructure Canberra (iCBR) works in close collaboration with our directorate partners across Government and industry. The organisation is entrusted to plan and deliver infrastructure projects of different scale and complexity. The work varies from small scale community projects to schools to building light rail.
Infrastructure projects that have significant complexity and scale are classified as major projects by the ACT Government. Each of these projects have a dedicated project team and independent board. Each major project has direct lines of accountability to the responsible minister.
Smaller infrastructure projects are managed by project teams who work closely with partner directorates. They are responsible for building social, civil and commercial infrastructure across the city.
iCBR is also responsible for other programs of work. This includes managing risks posed by the use of combustible cladding products and electrifying ACT Government gas assets.
Major projects
iCBR currently manages four major projects. This includes:
- The Canberra Hospital Expansion
- CIT Woden Campus
- Canberra Theatre Centre Redevelopment
- Light Rail.
Each project is managed by an external project board and have direct lines of accountability to the responsible minister. The specific make up of each project board is based on its scope and which ACT Directorates have operations that intersect with the project.

- Government Buildings Program
- Private Buildings Cladding Scheme.
The Government Buildings Program was completed in late 2022. Work is ongoing for the Private Buildings Cladding Scheme.
